卡梅隆收到泰森博士的纠错信之后，一度很为难。纠错吧，片子已经在世界各地公映了，没必要将所有拷贝收回来重新制作，但影片内容牵涉到真实历史，这个“穿帮”境头，委实又有些错得离谱，与自己的执导风格也不相符。不过，卡梅隆毕竟是卡梅隆，不久后，他诚恳地向泰森请教，并且弄到了一张当时的准确星空图。十五年之后，当3D版《泰坦尼克号》上映之前，卡梅隆特意向媒体公布了这一细节，并且向大家表示：这将是一部完美的影片，观众除了可以充分享受身临其境的3D效果，还能看到修正后的美丽夜空，重温真实的历史，弥补当年的遗憾。这条消息经过无数传媒转载，很快成为热门话题。
