篇1:图书(Books)

books are our good friends. when we began elementary school, we started our friendship with then,. they never leave us unless we throw then, away. when we are alone, they help us to get rid of lonely feelings. when we are in low spirits, they encourage us to stand up again. whenever we are in trouble, they always offer help to us.

however, not all books are worth reading. certain ones can be harmful to our young people who have committed crimes which have resulted in their being sent to prison. this is the result of the negative influence that these books which are not worth reading have upon their young readers.

so it is important to make wise use of books. our aim is not only to read them, but also to use them. how can we use then, more wisely? the answer is to practise what we have read. only by practising and using the knowledge we have acquired fron, books, can we achieve more in our life.

篇2:The Delight of Books

The Delight of Books

Books are to mankind what memory is be the individual. They contain the history of our race, the discoveries we have made, the accumulated knowledge and experience of ages; they picture for us the marvels and beauties of nature, help us in our difficulties, comfort us in sorrow and in suffering, change hours of weariness into moments of delight, store our minds with ideas, fill them with good and happy thoughts, and lift us out of and above ourselves.

Many of those who have had, as we say, all that this world can give, have yet told us they owed much of their purest happiness to books. Macaulay had wealth and fame, rank and power, and yet he tells us in his biography that he owed the happiest hours of his life to books. He says: If any one would make me the greatest king that ever lived, with palaces and gardens and fine dinners, and wines and coaches, and beautiful clothes, and hundreds of servants, on condition that I should rather be a poor man in a garret with plenty of books than a king who did not love reading.?BR>Precious and priceless are the blessings which the books scatter around our daily paths. We walk, in imagination, with the noblest spirits, through the most sublime and enchanting regions.

Without stirring from our firesides we may roam to the most remote regions of the earth, or soar into realms when Spenders shapes of unearthly beauty flock to meet us, where Miltons angels peal in our ears the choral hymns of Paradise. Science, art, literature, philosophy,---all that man has though, all that man has done,----the experience that has been bought with the sufferings of a hundred generations,---all are garnered up for us in the world of books.

篇3:书籍(books)

as is well known, books teach us to learn life, truth, science and many other useful things. they increase our knowledge, broaden our minds and strengthen our character. in other words, they are our good teachers and wise friends. this is the reason why our parents always encourage us to read more books.

reading is a good thing, but we must pay great attention to the choice of books. it is true that we can derive benefits from good books. however, bad books will do us more harm than good.

“书籍”英语作文译文:

如众所周知,书籍教我们学习人生,真理,科学以及其它许多有用的东西。它们增加我们的知识,扩大我们的心胸并加强我们的品格。换句话说,它们是我们的良师益友。这是为什么我们的父母终是鼓励我们要多读书的理由。

读书是一好事,但我们必须多加注意书的选择。不错,我们能从好书中获得益处。然而,坏书却对我们有害无益。

篇5:Gifts and Books

Gifts and Books

With the exception of Christmas, at no time in the year does the chore of selecting gifts beset us as extensively as it does during June. June is a month when students graduate and when many face the question of what gifts to buy that will appropriate both the event and that will appropriate both the event and the person---something that will worthwhile and memorable as well as within our budget. Books represent the ideal gift for all events, as Colton it, “Next to acquiring good friends, the best acquisition is that of good books.”

篇6:Companionship of Books

Companionship of Books

A man may usually be known by the books he reads as well as by the company he keeps; for there is a companionship of books as well as of men; and one should always live in the best company, whether it be of books or of men.

A good book may be among the best of friends. It is the same today that it always was, and it will never change. It is the most patient and cheerful of companions. It does not turn its back upon us in times of adversity or distress. It always receives us with the same kindness; amusing and instructing us in youth, and comforting and consoling us in age.

Men often discover their affinity to each other by the love they have each for a book --- just as two persons sometimes discover a friend by the admiration which both have for a third. There is an old proverb, Love me, love my dog.?But there is more wisdom in this:Love me, love my book.?The book is a truer and higher bond of union. Men can think, feel, and sympathize with each other through their favorite author. They live in him together, and he in them.

Books,?said Hazlitt, wind into the heart; the poet's verse slides in the current of our blood. We read them when young, we remember them when old. We feel that it has happened to ourselves. They are to be had very cheap and good. We breathe but the air of books.?/P>

A good book is often the best urn of a life enshrining the best that life could think out; for the world of a man's life is, for the most part, but the world of his thoughts. Thus the best books are treasuries of good words, the golden thoughts, which, remembered and cherished, become our constant companions and comforters. They are never alone,?said Sir Philip Sidney, that are accompanied by noble thoughts.?/P>

The good and true thought may in times of temptation be as an angel of mercy purifying and guarding the soul. It also enshrines the germs of action, for good words almost always inspire to good works.

Books possess an essence of immortality. They are by far the most lasting products of human effort. Temples and statues decay, but books survive. Time is of no account with great thoughts, which are as fresh today as when they first passed through their author's minds, ages ago. What was then said and thought still speaks to us as vividly as ever from the printed page. The only effect of time has been to sift out the bad products; for nothing in literature can long survive but what is really good.

Books introduce us into the best society they bring us into the presence of the greatest minds that have ever lived. We hear what they said and did; we see them as if they were really alive; we sympathize with them, enjoy with them, grieve with them; their experience becomes ours, and we feel as if we were in a measure actors with them in the scenes which they describe.

The great and good do not die even in this world. Embalmed in books, their spirits walk abroad. The book is a living voice. It is an intellect to which one still listens. Hence we ever remain under the influence of the great men of old. The imperial intellects of the world are as much alive now as they were ages ago.?/P>

篇8:The Value of Reading Books

The Value of Reading Books

People often say that gold and silver are the most valuable things in the world. But I don't think so. In my opinion, to read books is more valuable than anything else.

The old saying“To open a book is always helpful”clearly shows us how good it is to read a book.

Books are our friends. They introduce us different kinds of knowledge. They lead us down the road to success.

Books are our teachers. They teach us truth, science, literature, and philosophy of life, besides they increase our knowledge, enlarge our experience, strengthen our character and do many other things which we can not do without them.

We have to learn as long as we live. But our life is limited, and the knowledge is boundless. There are many things which are very necessary to learn and there are also many which should be avoided. Books tell us what is good and what is evil. And only books can tell the good from the bad.

Therefore to read more books is the best policy for our young students.
